Over the last year there has been significant interest in Big Data and there are some start-ups which have promised that there are ways to get the enterprise data under control. So is there a way the enterprise can exploit Hadoop-based engines in Public Cloud.
Enterprises are promised that the data would be migrated to a Petascale Database with scalability through the elasticity of the cloud. Can somebody answer what about the security of the enterprise data during migration and in Public Cloud?
The ability to get the data from the enterprise to the public cloud may be problematic and in most of the cases the governance, auditing process would not give a bypass till there are enough checks which may not be possible. Although we can certainly ship up a couple hundred thousand data records each day over the open Internet, in many cases we’re talking millions of data records that must be transformed, translated, and synced from existing enterprise systems.
We have still not considered the bandwidth required to transfer the data to Public Cloud. Enterprises in Growth Market are still have to think twice if they want the increase the pipe for the internet as that could be vey costly and I feel the same is true for all the geos and may like to fedex the data disk which could be cheaper option.
When it comes to security the private cloud strategy could suit an enterprise even better and the security models and technology are cheaper. Compliance is typically easier and cheaper when keeping data locally as well.
I am sure some of you are going to send me hate mails but before you do please see that I do not say that Big Data is no-go for enterprises, but what I am saying is that there is a need to consider all the issues with the technologies. Is there a solution which can help enterprises
